After The Noise

After the Noise is a photographic work created during Ylijaasko’s first journey to Japan, moving from the restless streets of Osaka to the quiet atmosphere of Miyajima Island in Hiroshima.

The work unfolds like a personal diary, tracing a shift from external noise toward inner stillness. In Osaka, the images carry the weight of movement, light, density, and human presence. In Miyajima, the rhythm slows. Silence begins to take shape through water, stone, trees, animals, and empty spaces.

Rather than documenting Japan as a destination, After the Noise approaches the journey as an emotional passage. The photographs search for moments where the visible world begins to feel imagined — where memory, solitude, and atmosphere turn ordinary encounters into something more painterly and symbolic.

The series is about contrast, but also about transition: the space between arrival and understanding, between noise and silence, between the world seen for the first time and the world that remains inside afterwards.
